How to Set Up HubSpot CRM in Minimalist Mode

The how to set up HubSpot CRM guide includes email integration, contact imports, deal stages, and more. It’s comprehensive – so there’s no need for us to go over it again. Instead, we’ll focus on some of the most common challenges, and dive deep into some of the more interesting themes you’ll need to get right.

HubSpot - Minimalist's Manifesto

Why Use HubSpot CRM?

A customer relationship management software is the technical implementation of a customer value approach to marketing and sales. A successful CRM implementation will help you:

In addition, HubSpot CRM is FREE – you may opt for the other modules which come with a cost. Our suggestion – make do with the free CRM to begin with, since you’ll be able to use it to insert, update, and delete information on customers and customer engagement as well as customer facing interactions.

Data Model - "Popping the Hood" on HubSpot CRM

Understanding how HubSpot works doesn’t require a PHD. In some case it’s useful to understand the piping and internals though.

The HubSpot data model can be found here, documenting all of the data objects that go into making this one of the most popular CRMs out there.

What does HubSpot do?

HubSpot helps you manage customer relationships and store data related to these management processes. But what are some of the more central business concepts – and more specifically – processes that are modelled in the HubSpot CRM data store?

Engagements

Depending on the CRM system this object may also be called interactions. Engagements capture all facets of customer relationship management. It’s like the circulatory system, and keeps everything flowing.

The engagements object stores data on actions performed within the CRM. Actions, or salesperson activities, are those functionalities such as  calls, emails, meetings, notes, and tasks. These activities are associated with “records” in the CRM.

And what are records exactly?

You guessed it… customer records, either at a company or contact person level – or, “contacts” as HubSpot terms them. Sure, there’s a lot more to it than this –  so feel free to download an introductory text by Francis Buttle here.
